What Is Color Guesser?
Color Guesser turns color recognition into a fast, repeatable practice loop. Each round gives you a plain-English color name instead of a swatch, so you need to judge hue, saturation, and brightness from memory before revealing the answer. It is useful for anyone who works with palettes, approvals, print specs, or brand systems and wants a stronger instinct for color decisions.
Why Use It for Pantone Matching?
This version of Color Guesser keeps the game fun while grounding the reveal in practical Pantone workflow. After every guess you see the actual color, your chosen HEX, and the nearest Pantone reference, which makes it easier to connect intuitive color perception with real production conversations.
How to Play
- 01
Choose Daily for a fixed five-round challenge or Infinite for open-ended color practice.
- 02
Read the color name, then move around the wheel and brightness slider until the preview looks right.
- 03
Reveal the answer to see your score, the actual swatch, and the nearest Pantone reference for that color name.
- 04
Continue through the queue, review your round history, and share your score when you finish the daily puzzle or a practice run.
Daily vs Infinite
Daily mode gives you the same five-color puzzle for the current UTC day. It is built for a quick benchmark: one set of rounds, one final score, and one reset at the next UTC midnight.
Infinite mode is an open-ended practice queue for repetition. Use it to train faster, test your range across unusual color names, and build a running average score without waiting for tomorrow's daily puzzle.
How Scoring Works
Each guess is scored from 0 to 100 using a Delta E 94 color-difference calculation between your selected color and the target swatch. Perfect matches score 100, close visual hits stay high, and larger misses taper down smoothly so you can compare consistency over time.
FAQs
What is this Color Guesser tool for?
It is a browser-based color guesser that helps you practice color recognition, compare named colors against real swatches, and build stronger intuition for design, branding, and Pantone-adjacent work.
How is the score calculated?
Scores use Delta E 94 color distance between your guess and the target swatch, then map that distance onto a 0 to 100 scale. Smaller visual differences earn higher scores.
Why show Pantone after each reveal?
Pantone references make the game more practical for production-minded users. They help connect a guessed screen color with a familiar print and brand language after each round.
